What can BrainHQ’s brain exercises do for my brain?
Your brain has the built-in ability to change and rewire itself – an ability called “brain plasticity.” It’s capable of learning new skills – or improving at skills you already have – however many birthday candles you’re blowing out. And that new learning can improve your brain health as well.
At BrainHQ, you’ll be working out specific brain functions, such as your:
- Attention, to focus on what matters
- Brain speed, to help you better process what you see and hear
- Memory, to create clearer memories and have better recall
- People skills, to help you better recognize and remember names and faces, and retain information about others
And whether you’ve been brain training for years or you’re just starting your first session, BrainHQ’s programs will adapt to your skill level. So it’s easy to get started – and it will keep you challenged.
What members are saying about BrainHQ
Now that you know a little more about what BrainHQ can do for you, here’s what some of our members are saying about the brain-training platform:
BrainHQ member profile #1: Brenda M.
What first brought Brenda to BrainHQ was curiosity — she wanted to learn more about the power of her brain. Retired due to a health issue, she was interested to see how she could use her brain to retrain her body.
“The more I learned about the brain, the more I believed I could improve my physical abilities by improving my brain health,” says Brenda. “For example, when I was really active in training, my gait disturbance was minimal — I felt an improvement in my mobility. Training on BrainHQ was a contributing factor to improving my physical challenges.”
To beef up on brain training, Brenda first registered for BrainHQ’s Fundamentals of Brain Health course — a 10-week program that meets once a week for 90 minutes and walks you through the basics of brain health and the various brain exercises offered at BrainHQ. “The collaborative exchange was great!” she says of the class. And learning about the brain was “as good as learning about the BrainHQ exercises.”
Speaking of which, she says that training her brain on BrainHQ “brought to life” the importance of challenging herself. And, she adds, it’s “very helpful, and we all need to get into it!”
BrainHQ member profile #2: Jeff B.
Several years ago, after hearing acclaimed neuroscientist Dr. Michael Merzenich–BrainHQ’s co-founder– speak on PBS, Jeff began his brain training journey. He believes BrainHQ has a lot to offer. “The program tells you what you perform well on, and it shows you where you could improve,” he notes. As someone who is competitive in nature, Jeff likes that BrainHQ provides challenging but doable exercises to better his score and sharpen his cognitive skills. Another reason Jeff appreciates BrainHQ? “The help that is offered by their staff is fantastic. You can reach out to their support team anytime and they are happy to help, and it’s a real person!”
Even though Jeff didn’t begin brain training with a deficit, he still saw cognitive improvements. His focus and concentration are better than they used to be. Jeff is also remembering more about other people (like names and faces), and he can remember more in conversations–thanks to exercises like In the Know, Face Facts, and To-do List Training. Another change he has noticed is in his driving: training on BrainHQ has enhanced his peripheral vision, visual accuracy, and depth perception. All these skills are important for driving, and Jeff says they help “keep [him] safe and alert.”
Overall, a whole “brain change” has happened for him. “Not that I was going downhill significantly but this made a positive impact on my life!”

BrainHQ member profile #3: Marilyn R.
Marilyn heard about BrainHQ through her Medicare Advantage plan. “I thought it was great that [my plan] was able to provide BrainHQ at no extra cost!” she says.
Marilyn then began using BrainHQ to keep her brain sharp because she wanted to “stay on top of things and remain as active as possible. Anything I can do to keep myself healthy and tuned up is important. BrainHQ challenges you, and it’s adaptive, which helps you improve your cognitive skills.”
Not only has BrainHQ made Marilyn’s life more “interesting and challenging,” but she’s also noticed improvements in her day-to-day life since she began training. She credits BrainHQ’s Optic Flow exercise with helping her feel more aware of her surroundings. “I can pick up more in my peripheral vision, especially when driving,” she says.
While Marilyn does other activities in addition to BrainHQ to give her brain a workout, she feels they aren’t as focused or as in-depth. For example, she’s noticed a difference when she doesn’t use BrainHQ three times a week (more on this below!). “When I train less, I notice the exercises are not as easy as they were beforehand, and that’s what keeps me going. It’s important to keep working on your brain so you can live as best you can for as long as you can!”
What are my next moves when it comes to BrainHQ?
You can check out BrainHQ by signing up for a free version — or commit to your brain health with a monthly or annual subscription! You’ll find that the brain exercises are divided into easy-to-use, two-minute sessions — the type you can do while you’re waiting in line at the post office or scarfing down a bagel at your kitchen table.
As Marilyn R. noted, you’ll want to eventually aim to do brain exercises at least three times a week for about 30 minutes a session. But starting out with any amount of brain training is a good thing. And you can work your way up.
