About the rSTAND Study
You might consider participating in a research study that involves a computerized cognitive training program for fall prevention in older adults. The program is designed to improve the cognitive processes responsible for balance, coordination, gait, dynamic stability, and balance confidence. This study evaluates the effects of this training program in those with elevated fall risk. Participants will be compensated up to $185.
What will I do?
- This is a remote study, no travel is required.
- You will be asked to complete assessments and questionnaires to determine eligibility.
- If eligible, you will complete additional questionnaires and assessments before and after the training period.
- You will engage in the training program for ~30 mins/day for 10 weeks.
- You will also be asked to wear an Apple watch for fall detection.
Is this for me?
To be eligible for this study:
- You are at least 65 years of age
- You must be a US resident
- You have had at least one fall within the last year or have a walking or balance impairment
- You are fluent in English
- You have a computer or mobile device and have access to internet
- You do not have severe vision or hearing difficulties
- You do not have a history of other conditions, including mental illness, cancer, or other neurological conditions (multiple sclerosis, seizure disorder, vertigo)
- You have no severe depression or other chronic psychiatric disorder (eg. Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder)
- You are not enrolled in another research study
- You have no current or significant past history of substance abuse
- You have not had joint replacement or significant joint/leg injury within the last year
