A recent article by Fran Johns, a great True/Slant contributor who has written about Posit Science, talks all about telomeres. If you don’t know what telomeres are (I didn’t), they are protective caps on our chromosomes that help to regulate cell aging. Long telomeres = “younger” cellular age and better cell health. Short telomeres = “older” cells and poorer cell health.
A group of women will soon find out just how long their telomeres are. A new study at UCSF is measuring telomere length in these women to get better understanding of how telomere length relates to overall health and aging. Will we all start measuring our telomere length, like we do our cholesterol levels?
