You may have previously heard that people only use about 10% of their brains. A new brain imaging study has found that, in fact, we may only use less than 1% of our brains during any given day.
Scientists from University of California, Sunnydale used MRI imaging to scan the brains of people while watching zombie movies. The brain scans showed that during the movies, and in a subsequent memory recall task, the participants were using less than 1% of their brains. Interestingly, when the researchers repeated the experiment using rats, they found that the rats both used a larger percentage of their brains and remembered more details about the movie plots.
Of course, if you look at the date on this blog post, you will realize that we’re just playing an April Fools’ Day joke. We may have given ourselves away with the picture of Homer Simpson’s brain! The truth is, we use much more than 1% or even 10% of our brains each and every day. For the real facts behind the 10% myth, try this article!
