As a devotee to bodywork, I was interested to read that recent research has proven what I’ve always known on a personal level to be true: the benefits of massage are much more than skin deep.Volunteers in a study conducted at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles received just one 45-minute massage. (Ed. note: that’s a study I’d be more than happy to volunteer for!) Afterwards they were found to have significantly reduced levels of stress hormones and increased levels of lymphocytes, which are a key player in the immune system. Some had an increase in oxytocin, the so-called “bonding” hormone.
